Ibn ‘Abbâs narrates: The idols that were in Noah’s nation later came to the Arabs. Wadd belonged to the tribe of Kalb in Dawmat al-Jandal; Suwâ‘ belonged to Hudhayl; Yaghooth belonged to Murâd, and then to Banu Ghutayf in Jawf, near Sheba; Ya‘ooq belonged to Hamdan; and Nasr belonged to Humayr, to the family of Dhul-Kalâ‘. These were the names of righteous men from Noah’s nation. When they died, Satan inspired their people to set up edifices where they used to gather and to name them after them. They did it, but they were not worshipped until those people then died; knowledge was lost, so they were worshipped. [Authentic: Narrated by al-Bukhari (4920)]
