In spite of repeated reminders from Al-Khadr, and assurances from Musa (a.s) that he would be patient and not question any of Al-Khadr's actions, Musa (a.s ) forgot his promise and raised questions for actions that seemed to him unjust and inexplicable at the moment . Allah teaches us in this Surah that there are things that people do that are horrible and despicable. We just see the immediate incident and we don't see how it plays into a larger reality because we don't have the full map in front of us. At one level we should stand against injustice , at the other level even while we are standing against injustice ; we should know there is a larger plan of Allah at work. If Allah gave us the map of every possibility with every choice, with all the reactions that will happen and He made it all apparent to us; then we would still pick the same choice that actually happened as the best choice. Subhan'Allah how Allah shows us a glimpse of that in the Story of Al-Khadr and Musa (a.s). A positive example of that is also found in the story of Yusuf (a.s). Yusuf (a.s) got kidnapped as a child which can't possibly be a good thing. But if he was not kidnapped as a child, he would not have been sold into slavery. If he would not have been sold into slavery , he would never have been falsely accused and if he wasn't falsely accused he would never have been in jail. And if he was not in jail , he would never have interpreted dreams and if would have never interpreted dreams he would not become the Minister of Egypt and run its finances. And if that didn't happen , thousands of people would have died in the drought because the only reason Egypt survived that drought season and mass famine and hundreds of thousands of men, women and children were prevented from dying of starvation is because Yusuf (a.s.) interpreted the dream. Also the family of Yusuf (a.s) would never have been re- united and his brothers would have never made Tawbah if he didn't get kidnap in the first place. Had Yusuf (a.s) not encountered the bad events that he did; the harm that would have spread as a result would be way more . Even when Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was injured at Uhud and almost killed; there was a larger plan at work. Even when our mother Aa'isha (رضي الله عنها) was accused and her honor was degraded and for nearly a month or more she was being slandered in the entire city of Madinah and our Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) had to hear horrific things about his own wife being said all over the city, still Allah says (Surah an Nur, Aayah 11) : بَلۡ هُوَ خَيۡرٌ لَّـكُمۡ (it is good for you.) Apparently none of the people doing the slander were indulged in anything good but the event in itself had some good some benefit because Allah sees the larger picture . There is no way for us to see the whole picture because we as human beings ; our minds are not designed to see the whole picture. That's the reality that human beings do not have access to! And Allah knows best! - Reflections From the lecture 'The Journey of Musa (a.s)' by Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan.
