Summary(Important points) Surah 5 Al Ma'idah Ayat 32 by Nouman Ali Khan 1. The story before this was about Adam(AS). The transition from Adam(AS) to Bani Israel is because they were supposed to be the role model nation for all humanity. So, that is why it went from the first human being to the first major role model nation. 2. A tragedy happens everywhere, either a natural disaster or human corruption. When people save other people during this time - it doesn’t matter what their religion is - their action was of heroism. 3. Thanking a person who saved your life, even if they are not Muslim, is not going to breach your loyalty to Muslims. That is not what our religion teaches. 4. For the longest time, we have got along with people of other faiths. This mentality of animosity towards those who don’t follow Islam is a recent phenomenon. 5. We have to create a culture where being loyal to your religion doesn't mean hating other people who don’t follow your religion. 6. The word 'MUSRIF' means 'someone makes others and themselves corrupt'. They don’t just do damage, they damage a lot more than required. 7. There is a principle in Islam of an eye for an eye and a life for a life. But nationalism has made it seem that other nation’s citizens' lives are not equal to one of our citizen’s lives. If one of their citizens kills one of our citizens, that somehow gives us the liberty to bomb their entire village. Because the life of one of our citizens is worth more than thousands of lives of their citizens. Nationalism has allowed this to happen, it has stopped us from being genuine human beings. 8. Bani Israel killed not just others, but some of their own people too. Before we criticize their history, let us see our own affairs. Are Muslims killing each other? Just recently, there is the news of the Arab springs and how they would target anyone who could be targeted. 9. Centuries ago, Bani Israel was transgressing in their killing against each other. And today, it is Muslims who are killing each other. 10. Certain aspects of social justice - that Islamic to begin with - are found in non-muslims countries but not in Muslim countries today. Instead of exporting them from our countries to other countries - which is what we have been sent for - we have to import them from other countries to our Muslim countries.

مِنْ... إثبات العِلل لأحكام الشرع، وإثبات الحكمة البالغة لله، وعدله في الجزاء على العمل.

كَتَبْنَا... تعظيم الله تعالى، وتعظيم شأن المكتوب، وتغليظ حرمة الدماء، وتقرُير المحاسبة والعقاب.

بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ... جواز تخصيص معيّن في الحُكْم العام، وشدّة جرأة اليهود وتطاولهم على دين الله تعالى.

جَمِيعًا... خطورة الابتداع؛ فقد لا تنُجي التوبةُ من سوء أثرها، وأهميّة أمن المجتمع وصيانة النظام العام.

أَحْيَاهَا... الترغيب في إنقاذ النفس بكلّ الوسائل، وجواز إضافة الفعل إلى سببه؛ فالله المحيي وحده.

رسلهم... رحمة الله بعباده، وقيام الحجّة عليهم، وتشريفُ الرسل عيهم السلام، ووضوحُ أمر الدين.

إِنَّ... دقّة تعبير القرآن ومصداقيّتُه، والحقّ لا يعرف بكثرة الأتباع، وخطورة الإعراض بعد البيان.

We Are All in the Boat Together

Today, while commuting to the office, I had a profound realization.

I was a little late to catch our staff bus, so we boarded a minibus that would take us to the main bus. The driver would not move until every seat was occupied. Everyone was eager to see the remaining seats filled. Each time a new passenger entered, there was a sense of joy and anticipation, until the last passenger came in and we all felt a quiet sense of accomplishment.

At that moment, I began to reflect on human salvation.

Perhaps this is why the Prophets and Messengers of Allah were so relentless in calling humanity to righteousness. We are all in the same boat; the salvation of one is

They are already doing theirs, 'Taking lives and killing the whole of humanity'. We must also do ours, 'Saving lives and saving the whole of humanity'. Help save a soul in Palestine.

brought us a wealth of mubarak insights. It's no accident that Ayah 32 of Surah al-Maidah mentions Bani Israel specifically, as the world watches those who call themselves descendants of Bani Israel (see note below) murder our

#Ummah

of

#Gaza

with seeming impunity. As we observe the

#Genocide

in Gaza and similar murderous campaigns in the

#Sudan

,

#Kashmir

, the

#Uyghur

region of China, and elsewhere, we feel in our bones that it is as if those responsible are murdering all of humanity. And many of us also see those who are working for the benefit of the ummah who are most in peril as saving all of humanity. These people might be fighting in the path of Allah

The Sanctity of the human life in Islam: Imagine the Kaaba, the sacred house of Allah: the beauty, the majesty, the sacreness of that holy place ...

And as much as we value the sanctity of the Kaaba and its status... We need to value the Muslim's life and honor as much, as in the hadith:

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَطُوفُ بِالْكَعْبَةِ وَيَقُولُ مَا أَطْيَبَكِ وَأَطْيَبَ رِيحَكِ مَا أَعْظَمَكِ وَأَعْظَمَ حُرْمَتَكِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَحُرْمَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ أَعْظَمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ حُرْمَة

وَٱلْفِتْنَةُ أَكْبَرُ مِنَ ٱلْقَتْلِ - Surah Baqarah - Says that Fitnah (i.e. to put to test, opression, torment, torture, trial, persecution etc.) is greater than Killing.

And Surah Maidah says, that, - Whoever takes a life is like if they killed all of humanity.

Now on this simple match we can easily draw conclusion that spreading fitna is heavy thing and we should be watchful on our daily interactions even with spouse, children and others that we don't fall into oppressing them with our behavior & words.

WHOEVER SAVES A LIFE, IT WILL BE AS IF THEY SAVED THE ENTIRE HUMANITY...... How magnanimous is our Lord, ALLAH, who give us generously. Numerous opportunities have been bestowed upon us by our lord to earn his blessings, but are we ready to receive those blessings and favours. 'Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower'.
