Abu Hurayrah narrates: The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: 'Moses was a modest and well-covered man; none of his skin would show because of how shy he was. Then some people from the Children of Israel insulted him and said: ‘He is only covering himself up because of a deformity in his skin! It is either leprosy, swollen testicles, or some disease!’ 'Allah wanted to prove his purity from what they claimed about Moses. Moses went into seclusion one day and placed his clothes onto a rock to bathe. When he finished, he turned turned towards his clothes to take them, but the rock had ran away with his clothes! Moses took his staff and chased the rock, saying: ‘Hey rock, my clothes! Hey rock, my clothes!’ until he reached some chiefs from the Children of Israel. They saw him naked, most perfect of anything Allah created, and thus, He proved his freedom from what they claimed. 'The rock stood still, so he took his clothes and dressed himself. He then began to beat the rock with his staff. By Allah, the rock had three, four, or five bruises from the the impact of the hits. 'That is why Allah says: O you who have believed, be not like those who abused Moses; then Allah cleared him of what they said. And he, in the sight of Allah, was distinguished. ليست العِبرةُ بما يقوله الناس فيك، ولكن انظر أين مقامك عند ربِّك، فكلُّ مذامِّ الناس فيك لا تَنقُص من قدرك إذا كنت عند الله وجيهًا.
