Belief in The Unseen
The first quality that Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta`aala mentions regarding the Muttaqeen (those who are mindful of Allah and take care of their actions) is they believe in the unseen. They realise that there is a realm that cannot be seen with the physical eye, but can be witnessed by the heart and intellect.
A beautiful analogy we can all relate to is the device that you are holding, reading this reminder with. We can all see the phone, and the image on the screen but what we don’t see is the infrastructure that allows the phone to function. Unseen to us are all of the electromagnetic waves and the vast infrastructure that gives the phone purpose.
Without the unseen network, the phone would quickly lose it’s purpose and lose it’s value. How many of us would keep a phone that is unable to connect to a network? The function of the phone would be severely limited.
Similarly, when we are aware that we too are operating in the physical realm as well as the unseen spiritual realm that surrounds us, we can live lives with greater purpose and strive with more good deeds. Limiting ourselves to only that which we see will inevitably limit our potential.
The non-believers could argue that they are able to see the network that powers our phones, by using specialist equipment they can visualise all of it. The unseen can be seen. For a believer our special equipment to ‘see’ the unseen is The Ayaat of Allah, both the Ayaat of Revelation and The Ayaat of Creation.
Both types of Ayaat complement the other. When you reflect over an ayaat in the Quran, then you can ponder over the ayaat of creation, which then remind you of the ayaat of revelation. It is a cycle which will continue to allow us to keep the unseen at the forefront of our consciousness. Which in turn allows us to view the physical world through the lens of Allah’s Ayaat.
May Allah grant us the ability to always be mindful of the unseen and use that recognition to strive towards Allah and the betterment of ourselves. Ameen
