This set of verses stop you in your tracks. The repetition — 'What is the Haqqah?' — shakes the heart. It’s as if Allah SWT is saying: 'Do you really understand what is coming?' It's a wake-up call. Not a theory, not a story — but a certain reality. These are a scary set of verses. Past Nations Ignored the Warning: Thamud and Aad were powerful, advanced civilizations. Yet when they mocked the truth, when they refused to take Allah SWTs message seriously, they were wiped out — not slowly or gently, but with intense destruction: A blast (for Thamud) — sudden, overpowering. A violent wind (for Aad) — loud, relentless, and terrifying. It reminds us: no strength, technology, or heritage can protect a person or a people if they turn away from truth. I think of how many warnings I ignore in my own life — subtle ones, not always a storm or a shout. A missed prayer. A moment of arrogance. A time I brushed off a reminder thinking 'it’s not that serious.'. This is scary and real. Allah is serious. This passage makes that clear. The Day of Judgment is not a possibility — it’s a promise. And this life is our one chance to prepare. The Surah goes on to detail what will happen to those that are righteous and those that are not. These verses shake the soul, but they also offer comfort. When we see injustice in the world… When we hear about oppressors walking free… We crave accountability. And here, Allah SWT promises it. This surah continues to contrast the fate of the arrogant with the reward of the righteous — giving the believer hope, clarity, and motivation. Allah SWT wants to deter us away from the actions that will bring this punishment by making it severe. We as believers will do all what they can to please Allah SWT so that his wrath is far, far, far from us. So what can we do? - Stay humble — even the mighty were destroyed when they were heedless. - Never delay repentance. The punishment came suddenly. - Value reminders. Don’t roll your eyes or harden your heart. Those who ignored the calamity were overtaken by it. - Keep the Akhirah in view. When making decisions, ask: 'Will this matter on the Day of Haqqah?' We seek refuge in Allah from his punishment. We ask Allah to guide us and forgive us always.
