What strikes me the most about the last portion of Surat Al-Furqan is the simplicity of what Allah (SWT) asks of us. It is clear from these verses that Islam has straightforward overall principles: the belief in His (SWT) Oneness, the command to do good on this earth for ourselves and for others, to be balanced in our use of the resources of this earth, not to kill or commit adultery, to repent when we commit sins, to avoid gossip, to pray for righteous spouses and children, and to be open to Allah’s (SWT) signs to us. It’s a particularly striking simplicity because it follows many verses of those who ridiculed prophets and disbelieved in Allah (SWT) and the messages He (SWT) sent us over the centuries. It follows descriptions of the punishments reserved for the disbelievers. When presented with the simplicity of submission to Allah (SWT) and the good it does for you and those around you, and the arrogance and punishment of those who disbelieve - it is a natural conclusion to believe in Islam as the only option.
