The North Star.. Be a North Star to someone lost, Be the ease to someone’s pain. These lines began as a poem years back and like many of my writings from back then, now, they’ve become the seeds of my Reflections. The North Star was once used as a guide to direct travellers in old times. It help them to be certain about their whereabouts. Let’s go back to those days, when travellers crossed vast deserts and barren lands, and looked up at the evening sky to not get lost and not lose their way. The North Star never changed its direction. It helped them set their compass, and through that constant light, they would find their home and their destination. Hidayah is the North Star ; constant and unchanging. Iman is the compass that turns toward it. Even when the traveller loses his way, one glimpse of that star brings him home. Hidayah is from Allah so it never changes; it remains a constant guide. But the needle of our compass moves, just as our faith sometimes loses its direction. At times, it points toward the star; at times, it flickers away. These movements, to me, are the phases of faith. The rise and fall, the ranks of the heart that keep increasing or decreasing. Hidayah remains the same ,steady like the North Star. It is our faith, like the compass, that trembles. And whenever it misdirects, we must recalibrate it to point at the correct direction. And then, no matter how far we wander, we always find our way back Home.
