I think I experienced this last night with an old friend. As friends we give and take as part of our relationship and sometimes both parties run out of gas and that relationship needs to just take a break.
The word ‘because you lack the means to give’ — I think not only applies to material giving but also to spiritual giving too.
Our lives have turned upside down from what know it. And the need for spiritual giving is at an all time high. However ironically we all just don’t have enough to give because we ourselves need it!
However with this Ayat, we are reminded — even if we don’t have speak a good word.
I think my friend is spiritually tapped out however she gave me a kind word just to fulfill my rights. And that’s ok. As the person on the receiving end I don’t need to 'read' into it more that the face value because I know her intentions are pure. She’s just tired. And probably emotionally drained.
May Allah make my heart and hers filled with spiritual abundance so we can both give and receive from a full cup.
