‘Urwah b. az-Zubayr narrates: I said to Abdullah b. ‘Amr b. al-‘Âs: 'Tell me about the words thing that the polytheists did to the Messenger of Allah (saws).' He said: 'As the Messenger of Allah (saws) was praying in the courtyard of the Kaaba, ‘Uqbah b. Abu Mu‘eet came forth, grabbed the Messenger of Allah’s (saws) shoulder, and pulled his garment around his throat, choking him violently. Abu Bakr then came, grabbed his shoulder, and pulled him away from the Messenger of Allah (saws). He said: 'Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord?' [40:28] [Authentic: Narrated by al-Bukhari (4815)]
