Dear reflectors, I pose a question to you: 'What is that in your right hand?'
The story of Musa (as) holds a timeless lesson. When Allah asked Musa (as) about the staff in his right hand, he replied that it was a humble tool used to guide his flock and support himself. However, he had no idea that this simple staff would soon be transformed into something remarkable. With one command from Allah, the staff became a serpent, demonstrating Allah's power to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. You see, our perceptions and experiences define our world and often limit our ability to see beyond what is immediately apparent. But Musa's (as) staff, once just a tool, became a source of great miracles - splitting seas, producing water from rocks, and defeating Pharaoh's greatest magicians. Musa (as) learned that true strength and power come not from the object itself, but rather from the faith, trust, and reliance we place in Allah. Surrendering control to Allah and trusting His plan can make the impossible possible, enabling us to achieve greatness and miraculous feats beyond our imagination.
So, I ask again: 'What is that in your right hand?' Is it your job, wealth, relationships, or talents? These are just a few examples of what you may be holding tightly to rely on for daily life and have limited their purpose. You may not realise it, but what you consider a tool today could become something extraordinary tomorrow. The story of Musa (as) reminds us that these things are just tools, and our true strength and power come from our relationship with Allah. He can use any tool as He wishes, so do not limit yourself. As Musa (as) approached the sea, with Pharaoh's army in pursuit, he looked at his staff and remembered his absolute trust in Allah – Allah allows the unimaginable to happen. When things get tough, it's not the tool that saves you, it's Allah who comes to your rescue!
Take a moment to think about your life. What 'staff' has Allah gifted you with? Is it a talent, a resource or perhaps something else entirely? But always keep in mind that it's just a tool. When we surrender this tool to Allah, we open ourselves up to the possibility of it being used in ways we could never have imagined. So, ask yourself, 'What do I hold in my right hand?' Don't limit yourself to your own perceptions of what it can achieve. Remember, with trust in Allah, we have the potential to achieve greatness and become truly miraculous.
