~Ibrahim a.s sacrificed his heart for ALLAH s.w.t ~
Even though we believe in ALLAH… Even though we know there must be some good in what’s happening… Even though we know there is some wisdom behind the pain… Even though we know this is a test, as all believers are tested… Still the pain, the sorrow, the weight of not getting what we hoped for, or losing what we loved... it lingers.
And with that pain come the silent questions: 'Why me?' 'Why didn’t I get it?' 'Why did this happen to me?' We try to suppress those thoughts… We fight to stay patient... we remind ourselves: 'ALLAH is Just. He knows best.' But still, somewhere deep within ourselves, we hear these whispers 'but I wanted that... I strived for that... I asked for that... etc'.
Maybe we’re forgetting something deeper, something powerful. Something we should reflect on from the story of Ibrahim a.s, when ALLAH said: وَإِذِ ٱبۡتَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ رَبُّهُۥ بِكَلِمَٰتٖ فَأَتَمَّهُنَّۖ قَالَ إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامٗاۖ.... 'And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham was tried by his Lord with words [i.e., commands] and he fulfilled them. [Allāh] said, 'Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people.'
We know about Ibrahim a.s, how many tests he went through. Surely, he must have felt the weight of those trials. And yet… he fulfilled and passed them all and ALLAH s.w.t honored him for that. Maybe for every 'why' our heart cries out, the answer should be: 'Because this is my test. And whether I understand it or not… I have to pass it. It’s not just about surrendering. It’s about rising with trust, through pain. Because maybe… just maybe… this is the moment that shapes us into who ALLAH wants us to be.'
But how did Ibrahim a.s do that? ALLAH gives us the answer, just a few verses later: إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُۥ رَبُّهُۥٓ أَسۡلِمۡۖ قَالَ أَسۡلَمۡتُ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ. (2:131) When his Lord said to him, 'Submit!' He said, 'I submit myself to the Lord of all the worlds.'
No argument. No delay. No resistance. No 'why.' Just straight surrender. His goal wasn’t to understand the test. His goal was to pass it, to please his Rabb. Even when everything was taken from him, one after another. He kept walking. He kept trusting. He kept seeing everything through one lens: 'This is His will. He want it, and I must keep pleasing my Lord through it.' He knew the heart must go through pain and sacrifices because that’s how it is purified. He knew that without tests… without being broken… without a purified heart no one attains the love and closeness of ALLAH s.w.t. one od the poet said so beautifully; نمازِ زاهداں سجدۂ سجود است، نمازِ عاشقاں ترکِ وجود است۔ 'The prayer of the pious is prostration of the body, But the prayer of the lovers is the sacrifice of the self.' . . Ibrahim a.s was entirely focused on attaining the qurb of his Rabb. That was his goal. That was his driving force. Now the question is… What’s our goal? What’s our focus?
Just like Ibrahim a.s, maybe we are being called to a higher level. Not just to survive the trial… But to be transformed by it. And maybe, just maybe, this is our moment… To say with full conviction: 'أَسۡلَمۡتُ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ.' 'I submit myself to the Lord of all the worlds.'
