بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ Verse: 'وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًۭا ٣' (And put your trust in Allah, for Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.) Lens: Vocabulary Which word in this verse stands out most to you? Why كَفَىٰ and وَتَوَكَّل Tawakkul To give your matter in hands of Allah. Yes, all the matter is already in the Hands of Allah. However, tawakkul means to free ourselves, to free our minds by entrusting Allah. By giving everything in the hands of Allah after tying our camels. كَفَى Means to be enough, to do what is needed without needing more. What deeper meanings could this word have? Means taking actions and delegating the results in the hands of Allah. Allah is wakeel. He manages all the affairs with full responsibility. He provides and defends and never leaves those who put their trust upon Him. And kafa shows that we do not need someone or anything else when we have Allah on our side. He will be just enough for us, handling our affairs like no one else. Is there a reason Allah used this word instead of another? Allah could use the words naseer (helper), Hafiz (protector), Wali (Ally) instead of Wakeel. He used tawakkul instead of iman (belief), Yaqeen (certainty). But the root wa-ka-la (root of wakeel and tawakkul) combines the meaning of doing your part, leaving the matter in hands of Allah. It combines the meaning of both emotional, spiritual and legal reliance. And Kafa has the meaning of You never need literally anything else when Allah is here, Its enough and done. Lens: Structure What’s the order of ideas in this verse, and why might it matter? Allah could just say Allah is al-wakeel but He didn't. The phrase He used says that you do not need to be relied on anyone other than Allah. Allah is wakeel is a fact but كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا is a closure. It removes the fears and doubts. Allah used bi with Wakeel. The use of bi shows us something really important. The bi is a preposition which means with, by, or through. It shows that it is only by Allah, only through Him and only with Him protection happens. People can support you, but they are not the source. Does the sentence structure change the tone or emphasis? Allah could say كَفَى ٱللَّهُ وَكِيلًا (Allah is sufficient as a Disposer) It doesn't have bi which makes it look like that there are sources to be relied upon. ٱللَّهُ كَافٍ وَكِيلًا (Allah is sufficient as a Disposer) He could use كَافٍ instead of كَفَى. The difference is that Kaafinn shows the ongoing situation, something which is not done yet. It doesn't show the impact of what He has done. وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا has verb first, it's an action-based sentence. ٱللَّهُ كَافٍ وَكِيلًا has subject first, it's a noun based sentence, more like a fact, just a statement. It's like saying The police is chasing the thief or the police will chase the thief vs The police caught the thief You do not need to fear, to doubt because Allah already handled it. You need to do your action, tie your camel. Lens: Context Why do you think Allah revealed this message at that time? This is 3rd verse of Surah Ahzaab, which was revealed when Muslims were going through a very tough time, when they were tested. 'Remember when they came at you from east and west, when your eyes grew wild in horror and your hearts jumped into your throats, and you entertained conflicting thoughts about Allah.' 'Then and there the believers were put to the test, and were violently shaken.' Allah talks to Prophet s.a.w in starting verses. This is one of the commands He gave. Even though believers went through some really tough time, Allah is saying to put trust in Him. And when Prophet s.a.w and believers put their trust upon Him, Allah handled their affairs in a beautiful way while they had to play their part. Does this connect to a historical event or broader theme? Yes, the next events in this surah show how Prophet s.a.w and his people trusted Allah at the time of Ahzaab, and the wars after it. This surah talks about the struggles of believers and gives commands to them. It also has the ayah of hijaab and mothers of the believers are being addressed. Allah is saying to put our trust upon Him, to pass every test, to walk on siraat e mustaqeem. Lens: Audience Who is Allah speaking to in this verse? Allah is addressing Prophet s.a.w. The surah starts with 'O Prophet always be mindful of Allah, and do not yield to the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.' How would this verse feel if it were addressing you personally? I am feeling calmed and relieved. That no matter what, if I put my trust upon Him, I should have no worry and fear left. All my matters are handled by Him and He is best disposer of affairs. Lens: Relevance How is this verse relevant to something you’re going through? I am currently longing on something. I did istikhara and been praying for that. My nafs says that your duas won't be accepted, there are no signs. I am thinking what if that amar has sharr for me. But I know that Allah can put khair in anything He wants. And if according to His Hikmah, that thing is not good for me, then surely He has better plans and alternatives. But still I have done everything I could, tied my camels and now waiting for His decision. What emotions or thoughts does this verse trigger today? This gives me instant sense of relief. It frees me from worry and adds hope. What change can you make in your life after reading this? I have to do my part and then free myself from the worry of result. Because Allah has already written what He has planned for me. Just like Moosa a.s put his trust upon Allah while standing in front of the ocean, we have our own oceans. But following the sunnah of Moosa a.s, we should say Allah is with me, He will surely guide me. It's like leaving the heaviest matters, the toughest case no one can handle to Him. Because only He has the power to disclose our affairs.

مَن توكَّل على الله جلَّ وعلا أغناه عن غيره، ممَّن يُرغب فيما عنده، أو يُخشى ممَّا لديه، فإن الله سبحانه هو مَن ينفع عبده، وهو مَن يدفع عنه ضُرَّه.
