Summarised from Nouman Ali Khan's talk: Slandering fellow Muslims (A serious warning from Allah).
NAK believes the quality of toughness in the Quran is sabr. Prophet Yusuf (AS) went through many trials and suffered pain and trauma from them all. Allah describes the trials in the Quran but does not mention how Prophet Yusuf (AS) was feeling. However, when the brothers meet Prophet Yusuf (AS) who is now a Minister in Egypt, they mention that Binyamin is a thief like his brother. Allah (swt) says that Yusuf (AS) kept all of his emotions: frustration, anger, anxiety and humiliation - inside him and didn't let them see. For the first time, we see the description of pain in Yusuf's (AS) story.
Words can cause great pain. For Allah (swt) to record that moment and what he felt inside of him and kept it inside , tells us that words carry weight.
Body language is recorded in the Quran -->Surah Abasa (80). These ayahs are very heavy because they put us in check.
Abdullah Ibn Umar reported: I saw the Prophet (pbuh) circling the Kaba and saying-How pure you are and how pure is your fragrance! How great you are and how great is your sanctity! By the One whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the sanctity of a believer is greater to Allah than your sanctity, in his wealth, in his life and to assume nothing of him but good. (Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 3932).
Allah (swt) says - We have honoured the children of Adam (AS). When Allah (swt) gives something, do we get to take it away? If we do, we are committing a crime, in this case, thinking that you have the right over someone's dignity, you can say anything you like. This is why in Surah An-Nur, when someone is talking about somebody else, immediately, we should say:
'How can we speak about such a thing! Glory be to You ˹O Lord˺! This is a heinous slander!' (Surah An-Nur ayah 16).
May Allah help me to control my tongue, and busy it with seeking forgiveness for my shortcomings and in praise of my Rab who is my ultimate Protector. May Allah help all my brothers and sisters to take heed of this reminder. Ameen.
