I have just been reading this and I found it quite arresting. The reason is it put me in a reflective state to try to understand the use of terms referring to sorrow and grief. In some ways it is astonishing that it appears that an immediate worldly loss resulted -- to bring people back -- from not grieving over worldly loss; in other ways this should not surprise us.

Do we, weak as we are, become even more determined for worldly gain, when worldly loss might have the purpose of refocusing us on akhirah?

Allah Most High knows best.

There is no room for fear when you have faith. Allah can lift all burdens of distress when we trust in Him and obey His Messenger ﷺ.

“Did We not expand for you your chest, and remove from you your burden, which weighed heavily upon your back?” (94:1–3).

That’s what Allah can do. You can be Free as a bird. Or carry heavy burdens of distress upon distress. It’s up to us!

“Remember˺ when you were running far away ˹in panic˺—not looking at anyone—while the Messenger was calling to you from behind!”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is calling us, (through hadiths) to follow the straight path. But we are running away from the sunnah.

“Now, do not grieve over the victory you were denied.”
