When Allah sends us hardship, He gives us an incredible gift. When we are in hardship, we learn about ourselves like no other time. We learn our growth areas, our grit, and our capacity. This holds a value we cannot quantify because knowing yourself is the first and most crucial step to improving yourself, being of benefit to others, and getting closer to your Creator. Hardship also exposes to us the mercies and eases we have already embedded into our lives that we have taken for granted. Maybe in this immense hardship, a friend shows you kindness and support, which you wouldn't have expected. Allah's mercy may also come hand-in-hand with hardship, as it forces you to let go of the many things keeping you busy so that you can finally see and focus on what really matters to you. Without the hardship, we may never have learned about ourselves enough to grow. We would never have seen these preexisting mercies. We would never have received a new mercy. As a result, we would never have been grateful to Allah for any of it. And, remember, gratitude is the cornerstone of belief and worship -- even the prophet (pbuh) said, 'Should I not be a grateful servant?'

Another great point masha'Allah on hardship and ease. I completely agree that, through hardships, we learn about ourselves more, and that knowing ourselves is the first step to improving ourselves. And hardships do expose the things that we take for granted. Jazakallahu khair for sharing this.
