We find the word أوتاد ('awtad) also for example as وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ in the Qur'an. Fir'awn who was know by his pegs because his large army of soldiers would march and when they camped; pegs of the tents were seen driven into the ground on every side. A tent is known by the most important element of the tent which is the peg, This is a feature of Arabic that you call something with its most essential feature or component. In classical Arabic , a tent is also called a peg. It's as if Allah is saying that you are able to pitch these tents , let me show you the kind of tents I pitch. And what are these kinds of tents : وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا and the mountains as pegs? Being illustrated in a manner only Arabic language does justice that what comparison do you have in your imagination to what Allah azzawajal is capable of! Subhan'Allah! - Reflection from Tafseer lecture of Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan P.S : Geologists agree that mountains have strong roots in the ground like that of pegs used to anchor a tent because of which it stands strong, firm and unshaken by the wind. All praise and glory be to Allah Almighty!
