Ibn ‘Abbâs narrates: Al-Waleed b. al-Mugheerah came to the Prophet (saws), and he recited the Qur’an to him. It seemed as though he was sympathizing with him, and that reached Abu Jahl. He came to him and said: 'O uncle, your people are considering collecting money for you.' He asked: 'Why?' He said: 'To give it to you, for you went to Muhammad in order for him to present to you his message.' He responded: 'Quraysh know very well that I am of the most wealthy among them!' He advise: 'Then say something about him that will convey to your people that you reject him, or that you dislike him.' He asked: 'What can I say? By Allah, there is not a single man among you who knows poetry, poetic meter, or odes more than I do - not even anyone who knows more about the poetry of the Jinn! By Allah, what he is saying does not resemble any of this at all. By Allah, his message that he says is sweet and beautiful; it is lush with fruit, with ample roots; it transcends and cannot be surmounted, and it demolishes whatever is below it.' [Abu Jahl] said: 'Your people will not be happy with you until you condemn him.' He replied: 'Let me think.' After giving it some thought, he said: 'This is copied magic that he copied from someone else!' Then came down: And leave to me ˹O Prophet˺ the one I created all by Myself [74:11] [Authentic: Narrated by al-Hâkim (2/506-507), and from him al-Bayhaqi in ash-Shu‘ab (133)]

* عن ابن عباس قال: {لا تُبقي} إذا أخذت فيهم لم تُبقِ منهم شيئًا، وإذا بدَّلوا جلدًا جديدًا لم تذر أن تبادرَهم سبيلَ العذاب الأول.
