Tadabur on ayah 19 of surah Mulk: 'Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing.' In this ayah, ALLAH SWT wants us to ponder over the flight of birds, how they fly. As we know that flying birds have very small size, this small size help them to fly against the gravity.SUBHANALLAH! Birds fly through a combination of flapping and gliding, using streamlined bodies and specialized wings for efficient flight, and some even sleep while flying. Birds have streamlined body which reduces the air resistance, help them to fly efficiently. Some birds, particularly those with large wingspans, can glide for long distances, conserving energy by using air currents. Birds have specialized wings, hollow bones and powerful muscles which help them in flying. Some birds, like frigate birds, can sleep while flying, with studies showing they can take short naps in mid-flight. SUBHANALLAH! The wings of birds have specialized feathers for flying called 'flight feathers.' The power for flight is generated by repetitively pushing the flight feathers downward. Birds have hollow bones that are very light and strong. Their feathers are light and the shape of their wings is perfect for catching the air. Their lungs are great at getting oxygen and very efficient, so they can fly for very long distances without getting tired. Birds have special adaptations which are perfectly suitable for flying .SUBHANALLAH! Different birds have different fly speed which depends on their size, shape of wings and weight. The bird that can achieve the greatest airspeed is the peregrine falcon, able to exceed 320 km/h (200 mph) in its dives.SUBHANALLAH! Rüppell's Vulture holds the record for the highest flying bird in the world, reaching heights of 11,300 meters (37,100 ft) . Homing pigeons' average flying speed over moderate 965 km (600 miles) distances is around 97 km/h (60 miles per hour) and speeds of up to 160 km/h (100 miles per hour). There is evidence that the Alpine Swift can fly non-stop for 200 days, sleeping while in flight.ALLAHU AKBAR KABIRAH! A bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) travelled 8,435 miles from Alaska to Tasmania in Australia. Bar-tailed godwit broke a Guinness World Record.SUBHANALLAH! There are plenty of nocturnal (that can fly during night)birds like owls and nightjars, potoos, frogmouths, night-herons and a few more. A 69-year-old female Laysan Albatross that currently holds the record as the oldest-known wild bird, may have produced as many as 36 chicks over the course of her life.SUBHANALLAH! Nocturnal birds such as owls have superior night vision that allows them to fly around and hunt for food during the night. Macaws. With an average lifespan ranging between 50 and 100 years, macaws are among the longest-living parrot species. Known for their vibrant colors and playful, loyal personalities, macaws require a substantial commitment in terms of time and care.ALLAHU AKBAR KABIRAH! Birds communicate through a variety of methods, including calls, songs, and dances. Birds have beaks instead of teeth, and their beaks are adapted to their diet. Some birds have sharp beaks for tearing meat, while others have beaks for cracking nuts or filtering food from water. There are over 10,000 species of birds in the world, with a wide range of sizes, colors, and behaviors. SUBHANALLAH! Hummingbirds: Are the smallest migrating birds and can fly backwards. Puffins: Have colorful beaks that change color. Arctic Terns: Have the longest migration, with a round trip of 22,000 miles. SUBHANALLAH! Cowbirds: Lay their eggs in other birds' nests. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backward, sideways, and even upside down. Their wings beat at a remarkable rate, up to 70 times per second in flight and even faster when diving.SUBHANALLAH! Hummingbirds cannot walk, their legs are small and weak, primarily used for perching. Hummingbirds are among the smallest bird species, with the bee hummingbird being the smallest, weighing just 1.95 grams.SUBHANALLAH! They have a very high metabolism, requiring them to eat frequently to fuel their energy needs. ALLAHU AKBAR KABIRAH! Hummingbirds primarily feed on nectar from flowers and also consume small insects. Hummingbird tongues are specialized for nectar consumption, with a grooved, forked tip and tiny hairs to help lap up nectar. ALLAHU AKBAR KABIRAH! To conserve energy during cold nights or when food is scarce, hummingbirds can enter a state of torpor, a hibernation-like state. Hummingbirds have excellent memories, remembering the locations of flowers and feeders. SUBHANALLLAH! The iridescent colors of hummingbird feathers are created by tiny microstructures that refract light. SUBHANALLAH! Regards:Ayesha zafar
