And We removed from you your burden.”**

In this verse, Allah Almighty is addressing the Prophet ﷺ, telling him that He has lifted that burden from his blessed chest.

If we reflect on the word **“burden,”** it can refer to the immense responsibilities that were placed upon the Prophet ﷺ—the great responsibility of receiving revelation, the deep concern he carried for his people, and the trials and difficulties he faced while conveying the message of Allah.

The order of these verses is worth reflecting upon. First, Allah mentions the expansion of the Prophet’s ﷺ chest, and then He mentions the removal of the burden.

There is a profound lesson in this.

Sometimes Allah removes the burden and grants us relief. And sometimes, instead of removing the burden immediately, Allah strengthens the heart that carries it—and through that strength, He grants relief.

In both cases, relief comes only from Him.

**Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286**

**“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.”**

We simply need to remain positive.

We only see the burden, but what reward is being written for us in return for carrying that burden remains hidden from us. Perhaps only those who truly reflect are able to understand this.

A hardship will eventually pass in one way or another. But the relief, the reward, and the goodness that come from enduring that hardship may be far greater than what we were able to see while we were going through it.

People often think of relief only as receiving some reward, an achievement, or something tangible. In my view, that is a very limited way of understanding relief.

For me, the true relief is the **reward that Allah grants in exchange for the hardship**. And surely, that reward will contain immense goodness.

Perhaps Allah uses a burden to make us stronger, more peaceful, more capable of dealing with our affairs, and more mature in the way we solve our problems.

Or perhaps, when we struggle to find a way through a difficulty, the very process of thinking begins to clear the cobwebs from our minds. The knots in our limited understanding begin to loosen. And then, gradually, our minds begin to expand.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

**“No fatigue, illness, sorrow, harm, or distress befalls a believer—even the prick of a thorn—except that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it.”**

**Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim**

We often question why certain things exist.

But when we reflect upon the Qur’an, the signs meant for **people of understanding** begin to appear before us.

The Prophet ﷺ also said:

**“Know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with affliction, and with hardship comes ease.”**

**Reference: Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi**

I have always been amazed by this thought: **What are those signs that Allah has mentioned in the Qur’an?**

And what kind of people are those who are able to reflect with such immense depth?

What must it feel like when they finally discover those signs?

That must be such a beautiful sight.

**Allahu Akbar.**

Indeed, Allah’s knowledge is vast beyond measure.

Indeed.

**Surah Az-Zumar 39:18**

**“Those who listen to what is said and follow the best of it. They are the ones whom Allah has guided, and they are the people of understanding.”**

Those who listen to the words of Allah and reflect upon them are the ones who are guided.

For me, there could be no greater reward for any difficulty than for that difficulty to become a means through which **my understanding of the Qur’an expands.**

While studying the tafsir of Surah Al-Baqarah in the first Juz, I remember reading—though I may be mistaken, and I apologize if I have misunderstood it, as our minds are limited and we can forget things—that the Qur’an was revealed in **seven modes (ahruf)**.

What I understood from it at the time was that the Qur’an contains layers upon layers of meaning. Perhaps every verse, and even every word, carries depths that continue to unfold through reflection and understanding.

And beyond what we can comprehend, there may be meanings known only to Allah, and deeper understandings that Allah opens for those who sincerely reflect and ponder.

If there are seven, I may not be able to grasp even five of them. Honestly, even four would be more than enough for my mind at this stage, because I have not yet developed that much depth of understanding.

But anyway, this is what makes the Qur’an so beautiful.

**The Qur’an is such a vast Book that perhaps even a lifetime is not enough to fully explore the depth of a single verse.**

Sometimes I think: *“This is it. This must be all the tafsir of this verse.”*

But then I discover another explanation, another perspective, another layer of meaning.

Every tafsir is different. No matter how many interpretations one reads, it still feels like there is more to discover.

The books of tafsir can explain what has been understood and preserved by scholars, but perhaps the depth with which a person reflects upon the Qur’an determines how much they are able to perceive from it.

The more deeply a person reflects, the more they may understand.

And perhaps this is one of the most beautiful things about the Qur’an:

**You can spend your entire life with one verse, and still feel that you have only just begun to understand it.**
