The regret will come at a time when the curtains have been drawn, the pen lifted and the ink dried.

The beginning of the surah establishes Allah’s dominion and power. After this Allah directs us to contemplate His creation, This is followed by the warning of Hell and its reality is vividly depicted. Then comes this verse, which is not surprising, it is only the natural outcome of ignoring the signs presented earlier. Those who willingly ignored the faculties of perception that Allah سبحانه وتعالى had granted them will admit and express their regret as they refused to reflect.

Ask yourself, which of Allah's signs am I ignoring and which of His verses am I neglecting. Make a firm intent

Imagine being in the situation where you finally admit the sins that you so arrogantly did, all the injustice and denial of clear evidences and constant reminders from the righteous people that Allah sent specifically for you. May Allah save us from being those that deny His message, or those that deny His rulings and commandments. Ya Rab make beloved to us and easy for us your obedience, and make disliked to us disobeying you, and make it extremely difficult for us to disobey you.

They denied when denial had a choice. They confessed only when confession had no door left.

This āyah whispers a painful truth: truth accepted late is no longer repentance — it is regret.

In this ayah, it is clear that in this world, if we accept our sins and come close to Allah with repentance, then we get mercy from Him. But it is opposite in the hereafter; even though the people of hell will beg, their repentance won't be accepted.

So it is clear we shouldn't wait for a particular time to repent, as the time of death is not known to anyone.

In the 9th ayah of Surah Mulk, the disbelievers admit that Allah’s message was sent to them, but they turned their backs on it. Now in the 11th ayah, Allah says that after seeing the consequences of their actions, they admit that they were wrong, but it is of no use. We usually think that we might become better someday, but we never think about what if that DAY never comes. Sometimes we even think that we will stop committing certain sins slowly, as if we are reducing the dose of a medicine. But we need to understand that sins are not medicine, they are poison.
