This aayah and this dua makes our heart tremble out of love and hope in The Originator of the heavens and the earth. I once heard Sheikh Omar explaining this aayah beautifully. He said that by calling Allah by the name فاطر , Yusuf AS is expressing his contentment over Allah's plan that was put in place way before the creation of the heavens and the earth. After hearing Sheikh Omar say that, I have resorted to this dua so many times in my life. Calling Him فاطر السماوات والأرض and saying أنت وليي في الدنيا والآخرة توفني مسلما وألحقني بالصالحين feels surreal to me. The consolation and comfort in calling The Originator of the heavens and the earth to confess that He is my only 'Protecting Friend' just makes my heart ache. On the one hand, I know that I am not even remotely eligible for He being my وليي. But the fact that despite all my transgressions and mistakes and my utterly deficient nature, He still extends His loving protection to me as a believer and He lets me call upon Him ... How Merciful and Magnificent a Lord He سبحانه وتعالىٰ is, and how ungrateful a slave I am.
