When one of the people of the cave returned to the city to get food, he was asked to be careful to not be discovered, so for them the worst possible scenario would be to be discovered. But Allah is the best planner because he made them be discovered so that they could be honored.
Sometimes we pray to avoid a test, while it is through this test that Allah reward us. We need to be careful not to speak or complain too early in the face of difficulties because Allah is the best planner.
That is how We caused them to be discovered so that their people might know that Allah’s promise ˹of resurrection˺ is true and that there is no doubt about the Hour. When the people disputed with each other about the case of the youth ˹after their death˺, some proposed, “Build a structure around them. Their Lord knows best about them.” Those who prevailed in the matter said, “We will surely build a place of worship over them.” (21)

This verse reminds a timeless truth: Tyrants may build empires, but Allah builds legacies.
Pharaoh had power, palaces, and armies—but no barakah, no mercy, and no truth. The oppressed had chains, scars, and silent prayers—but they had sabr. And through that sabr, Allah made them leaders, heirs, and examples for generations.
Earlier in the same Surah (7:129), the Children of Israel, weary and broken, asked Prophet Musa:
"We have always been oppressed—before and after you came to us (with the message)."
To this, Musa replied:
"Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the land to see what you will do."
What seemed impossible then became a reality here i ...continue reading
And ˹so˺ We made the oppressed people successors of the eastern and western lands, which We had showered with blessings. ˹In this way˺ the noble Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel for what they had endured. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people constructed and what they established. (137)

One of the key lessons we take from Ramadan, given that we are ordered to continue to fast each and every day of Ramadan until the end, is steadfastness. These are not disjointed days, and neither is fasting optional on a day of our choosing . This momentum without a break teaches us the importance of constancy and consistency, something we need to apply to in all of our aspects of worship.
Remember, the worship of Allah and observing His rights upon us and constantly seeking His pleasure, requires for us to patient and steadfast as Allah tells us:
“He is the˺ Lord of the heavens, and the earth, and everything in between. So worship Him ˹alone˺, and be steadfast in His worship. Do you ...continue reading

This afternoon, I met with a friend of mine. Our conversation took a turn to discuss childrearing and its connection of how we view our relationship with Allah (SWT). I had mentioned that a few years ago, I met a Muslim lady who masha'Allah had a cute young child, but I noticed that whenever she wanted the child to stop doing something, she would snap, "haram". Anything, and everything was turned into "haram," when I thought about this later, I realized that it could have serious detrimental effects. As my friend and I chatted, I mentioned how sometimes our parents may unintentionally be instilling this extreme and unhealthy fear of Allah, that our Rabb is watching us and when we make one sm ...continue reading

"It's inevitable, I'm going to kill someone."
For almost half an hour, this was the only point he could talk about. He would detail how it would happen, who it would be, under what type of scenery, how he constantly fails to distance himself from this urge.
For a time, I volunteered with Samaritans. A suicide helpline. However, what sets it apart from others is that they don't give advice. Their service wants to support others specifically by listening to them - confidential and without judgement. To volunteer with them, you undergo a course that teaches you what it means to listen. You'd be amazed at how much there is to it and what you can bring through purely your ears.

In Surah Mulk, verse 19, Allah asks us a profound question and calls upon us to reflect on the creatures we see every day: birds.
He says:
“Have they not seen the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Most Compassionate. Indeed, He is All-Seeing of everything.”
In this verse, Allah encourages us to recognize the fact that even birds, despite having wings, cannot fly without Allah. Regardless of the scientific or biological explanations for why birds can fly, it is only Allah who holds them up with His power an ...continue reading

Ramadan shows us that the bliss, pleasure, sweetness, and the love of Allah that we experience during this month is a very, very, super small 'taste' of the actual pleasure of Allah that we will experience in the Hereafter, insha'Allah.
It reminds us that the taste of Allah's pleasure will be greater than anything that we have ever tasted in this life, whether it be food or anything else. Allah says:

Not all Eid is ideal..
Some celebrate with large family gatherings, while others have only a few loved ones around..
Some experience warmth and joy, while for others, simply being able to gather is already a blessing..
For some, Eid feels like a new beginning; for others, it is a reminder of time passing and what will be lost..
Yet too often, Eid becomes a stage for comparison of wealth, status, children, and achievements.. However, is this really the essence of Eid, to measure ourself against others?
This kind of comparison is dangerous because it leads us to question why my fate differs from another’s instead of trusting in His wisdom.
But Eid is not meant for this..
All praise is for Allah—Lord of all worlds, (2)

I have a coffee mug from a few years ago that says, “I may be wrong, but I doubt it.”
Ooooh, how things have changed since then. If I could rewrite it now, it would say, “I may be wrong, please correct me.”
Alhamdulillah for the ability not only to learn but to be open to mistakes and growth.
The moment you assume you know everything, you shut the door to learning.
You stop being a student.
But when it comes to Islam, we are all lifelong learners.
We don’t know it all.
No matter what we’ve been through or how much we’ve seen, we haven’t seen it all.
We don’t have everyone all figured out.
There is only One who knows everything, and whatever knowledge we possess is only ...continue reading
Allah! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? He ˹fully˺ knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them, but no one can grasp any of His knowledge—except what He wills ˹to reveal˺. His Seat encompasses the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not tire Him. For He is the Most High, the Greatest. (255)
They replied, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. You are truly the All-Knowing, All-Wise.” (32)
Exalted is Allah, the True King! Do not rush to recite ˹a revelation of˺ the Quran ˹O Prophet˺ before it is ˹properly˺ conveyed to you, and pray, “My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.” (114)
Fighting has been made obligatory upon you ˹believers˺, though you dislike it. Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know. (216)

All Is But a Passing Shadow...
Ramadan arrives quietly, yet brings profound lessons. It teaches me about something subtle, yet powerful — TIME... Not just fleeting moments, but a silent creation of Allah that never stops, never waits. It slips through our lives, unnoticed, yet always moving forward.
Everything I own in this life — wealth, health, loved ones — is not truly mine. They are but trusts placed temporarily in my care. This world is not for keeping. It is for passing through.
“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in wealth and children…” (Surah Al-Hadid, 57:20)
Joy comes, sorrow follows. Nothing stay ...continue reading

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful. the Especially Merciful,
Each Ramadan I pass through these ayats. I tend to reflect less in Ramadan and focus upon recitation. When Ramadan is over I like to recite more slowly with reflection. I have passed these verses over again and each time they cause me to pause. So many times I have wanted to make and pen a reflection.
Ramadan has left us and I took out my notebook which contains a reference to these verses. Many times we are tested with something we often don’t like, something which causes us anxiety, uncertainty, anger and frustration. This anger and frustration can often hinder our patience and trust upon Allah. Though, Yunus (peace ...continue reading
So be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not be like ˹Jonah,˺ the Man of the Whale, who cried out ˹to Allah˺, in total distress. [Surah An-Naḥl: 65]
Allah tells us about the rain—how He sends it down, how it brings life to the earth after it was dry & lifeless. This is something we see with our own eyes. We watch the water pour from the sky, soak into the soil & cause plants to sprout & flourish. It is a process we witness & a transformation we observe, right?
But then, Allah ends the verse by saying: "Indeed, in that is a sign for a people who listen." Why not "a people who see" since the entire process is something visible? Perhaps this is a shift in focus, directing u ...continue reading

Bismillah
Ramadan doesn’t leave us when the month ends—it stays with us in the heart that continues to worship. When we fast on an ordinary day, when we open the Quran beyond its nights, when we remember Allah in our daily lives, we keep Ramadan alive within us. Its purpose was never to be a fleeting moment but a renewal, a change that lasts.
The true sign of Ramadan’s impact is not in how we worship during its days and nights, but in what remains afterward. If we hold onto its spirit—through fasting, prayer, and remembrance—then Ramadan is not over. It lives in us, guiding us back to Allah, reminding us that every day is an opportunity to return to Him.

#wordings
You know, I recently learned something really insightful about the word "Fitna." It's not just about trials and struggles, but there's a deeper meaning – it’s actually linked to the process of purifying gold. When gold is put through heat, the impurities rise to the surface and are removed. This process of purification happens through fire. And when you think about it, the struggles in our lives work in a similar way.
Difficulties are inevitable, right? We all face them. But what I’ve come to realize is that these challenges actually help shape who we are. And once we understand the purpose behind them, we can go through life with more ease, co ...continue reading
And there are some who worship Allah on the verge ˹of faith˺: if they are blessed with something good, they are content with it; but if they are afflicted with a trial, they relapse ˹into disbelief˺, losing this world and the Hereafter. That is ˹truly˺ the clearest loss. (11)

If you pass a test, you are good.
If you fail, you are a failure.
We want to be seen but people only see the results.
That’s how it is.
People see the result.
No one sees the effort and unless they love you.
Efforts do matter,
and making efforts is a sign of sincerity, and sincerity is a sign of love."
That’s my own perspective, though.
Talking about love
In life, the only person who loves us the most is a mother.
She makes efforts for her child. Brings ease for them. Takes care of them in ways no one else does.
But what happens when the child grows up and stops making any effort in return?
What if they think they "deserve" her sacrifices si ...continue reading

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ
Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss.
Now that I think of this verse, I realize that my entire existence is defined within it. This is one of the most profound and terrifying verses I have ever contemplated. The Lord of the Heavens and the Mighty Throne—my Creator—has already declared that humankind is in great loss. Then who am I to deny this reality? Who am I to turn away in arrogance or seek refuge in illusions? Who am I to think that my prayers and deeds alone are enough to save me from this loss?
Allah has already declared that humankind is in loss—except for those who possess these four qualities:
They have faith ...continue reading

In this world, understand what you are seeking. If you are seeking the pleasure of Allah, then what does what others say matter. When others give criticism to benefit you, take it to improve yourself and say Alhamdulilah. And if others are attacking you and belittling you, say Alhamdulilah because the amount of reward that is adding up on your scales for being patient and gracious in the hereafter is with Allah. and that is better for you.

Ramadan came and went in a flash. Without its protection, we are at risk of relapsing into a business as usual mindset. Naturally, we resume our usual routines after Ramadan, but this should not mean falling back into the bad habits or sins we worked so hard to eliminate during the blessed month.
Ramadan came as a teacher, a parent, and an advisor. No doubt, the lessons, care, and advice it left us with have helped us build good habits, and now is the time to maintain that momentum.
This month, we will be exploring the theme “What Ramadan Has Taught Me” to solidify what we have learned and practiced during Ramadan.
