Xaynab's Reflection on Surah Al-Asr | QuranReflect

All Is But a Passing Shadow...
Ramadan arrives quietly, yet brings profound lessons. It teaches me about something subtle, yet powerful — TIME... Not just fleeting moments, but a silent creation of Allah that never stops, never waits. It slips through our lives, unnoticed, yet always moving forward.
Everything I own in this life — wealth, health, loved ones — is not truly mine. They are but trusts placed temporarily in my care. This world is not for keeping. It is for passing through.
“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in wealth and children…” (Surah Al-Hadid, 57:20)
Joy comes, sorrow follows. Nothing stays. The things we build, the people we love, are all part of a divine loan ... returnable, not ownable.
We often forget, until trials shake us... a fire, a flood, an unexpected loss. Years of hard work, gone in minutes. Loved ones depart without warning...And we are left, quietly grieving.
“To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth…” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:284)
“Every soul shall taste death…”* (Surah Al-Imran, 3:185)
Something to ponder...
"To let go of what I tightly hold....And free my grip on fleeting gold."
Ramadan teaches my heart not to cling, but to surrender. Because the only things that remain are the goods we send ahead .... acts of kindness, whispers of prayer, silent sacrifices made only for Him.
“But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope.” (Surah Al-Kahf, 18:46)
I turn my heart to the Eternal, and gather what will shine in the next life ... not status, not possessions, but sincerity, gratitude, and steadfastness.
“And the Hereafter is better and more enduring.” (Surah Al-A‘la, 87:17)
In the end, what I release… is what sets me free...

This is such a moving and soul-stirring reflection — it flows like a heartfelt reminder whispered in the stillness of Ramadan nights. The imagery of time slipping by, the concept of divine loans, and the call to surrender are so beautifully interwoven with relevant ayahs. That poetic line — *"To let go of what I tightly hold..."* — really lingers. It captures a whole spiritual journey in just a few words.
Your reflection doesn't just convey a message; it gently invites the reader to pause, ponder, and realign. May Allah bless your heart with deeper insights each Ramadan and make your reflections a source of benefit for many. Ameen.
