Today, as I was walking on the roadside, I saw this man holding his shoes, screaming, continuously calling for death. It was such a disturbing scene. I don't know what led him to do this, and I cannot claim to understand his situation, but all I could surmise from his actions was that he was in such despair that he wanted death. Which made me wonder: if the affairs of this Dunyah can lead a grown man to such despair that he wishes for death – knowing very well that death is a possibility – what then of the despair of the Day of Judgement, when the disbelievers will call for death, while knowing very well there is no more death? May Allah protect us from the despair, the humiliation, and the

SCROLLS OF TERROR Here you are revived and remade Bare-foot, alone naked and afraid Dragged to the fire by your head – faceless, shredded in dread - dumb, blind and deaf - Your body trampled by the judgement day brigade At the plains of standing frightened to be weighed Your gaze transfixed like solidified lead The sun blazing just above your head Drowning your body in your own sweat And Allah arrives in a clouded shade – Carried by eight - His light covering every part of the spread But your eyes are unfortunately veiled Only terror engulfs your face instead Publicly displayed because of the crimes you conveyed Are you ready? To reap the profits of your trade? Th

Alhamdulillah, as Muslims we are not 'deniers' in the extreme sense of the word, being those who deny the truth of the message of the Prophet ﷺ. But are there other levels of denying that we may fall into? - Avoidance: Sometimes we may be involved in wrongdoing, but we convince ourselves it is fine, and ‘deny’ the reality of the sin by actively avoiding people or reminders that challenge that self-belief. - Distraction: Sometimes we know there is a good (but perhaps difficult) deed that needs to be done (e.g. asking someone for forgiveness), but we ‘deny’ the necessity of it by perhaps engaging in other less important good deeds, to divert out attention away from the truth. - Disto

Imagine there was a webcam recording us close up day and night and we could watch a re-play of ourselves? How would we fare? How much of our time have we spent pleasing Allah and how much displeasing Him?

When we are called in front of a judge for a minor offence in this world, we are terrified and anxious. On that final day, an entire re-play of our life will be played whilst we are in front of Allah - the Lord and Master of the entire universe. We can't even begin to imagine the utter terror humans will feel.

Oh Allah, make us all from those who are entered directly into Jannah without any hisab or kitab (questioning or reckoning). Ameen.

In the Name of Allaah the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, I have always loved the countryside, it does not matter what country it is in. Watching the different colours of grass and fields is quite something. Some parts of the field will be green and sometimes some parts of the fields will be yellow. Or you take the same journey in one season and you find the field green sprouting with crops and greenery. Later in the year you will pass the same field only to find it brown or yellow as though the greenery had never existed. Some people have no faith and they think that this life is the only life they shall live. Yet the believer knows there will be different abodes that we have

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, Establishing the prayer is one of the most important duties for a Muslim. It is the second pillar of Islam. I was reflecting today about the standing we do before Allah upon this earth, and then contemplating upon the standing that is inevitable before Allah on the Day of Judgement. We should stand in humility, with full focus and with deep love for Allah. Our prayer should be where we find peace and is our sanctuary. If we stand in submission in our salah upon earth, then bithinillah our standing will be better on the Day when our deeds will be judged by our Creator. I reminded myself of how important the second p

Under this verse, Imam Baydhawi writes that the day of judgement is there so that those who have been oppressed/harmed in any way in this world and couldn't get justice, can finally get justice in the hereafter. This must be so comforting to those silenced.

I was explaining this to my young daughter, and she asked: is that anyone who has been wronged will be called in front of Allah, both the oppressor and the oppressed? I replied yes. She then went on to ask me, even if that's me and you? And I was shocked as I had never thought of it like that ...

How many times have I wrongly shouted at her or hurt her feelings? How many times has she called for me and I was too distracted with work

Ameen. Alhamdulillah - this is such an incredibly heartwarming reflection. Fear Allah (SWT) in every action. 'But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allah - then indeed, Allah loves those who fear Him.' [3:76]

Do you remember that feeling when you did something bad as a child and you were waiting for your punishment. That feeling of regret. You would literally be on your best behaviour and act remorseful in the hopes that they, whether it be your teacher or parent, go easy on you. That's what comes to mind when I read these ayaat and it's acompanied by a sinking feeling at the pit of my stomach. A feeling of realisation that when we do something wrong in this life we still have a chance to make ammends. But on that Day, the Day of Regret, there will be no more opportunities. No more second chances. Whether we make a big fuss, or whether we 'come quietly' it's all the same in the end. And w

In verse 1, put simply, God did not come to play. Allah sets the scene for very serious warnings. Allah uses the world 'zalzalat' in reference to the Day of Judgement, and while it refers to the physical quaking/shaking of the Earth, we can understand it as so awe-strikingly terrifying that it 'shakes' each creation of Allah; human, jinn, animals, and even mountains. In the second verse, Allah describes events we find incredibly off-putting in the dunya. We frown upon the drunkard in the street and we could not even imagine our disgust at the mother who leaves her child in harm's way willingly and we are grief-stricken by the thought of a woman miscarrying. The severity of these events, aga

Ibn ‘Abbâs narrates: Abu Bakr came out to the mosque in the midday heat. ‘Umar heard about that, so he said: 'O Abu Bakr, what brings you out at this time?' He said: 'It is only the severe hunger that I feel that brought me out.' He responded: 'I too, by Allah, was only brought out by that.' As they were there, the Prophet (saws) came out to them and asked: 'What brings you both out at this time?' They said: 'By Allah, it is only the severe hunger that we feel in our stomachs that brought us out.' He said: 'I too, by the One in whose hand is my soul, was only brought out by that. Stand up.' They went out until they reached the door of Abu Ayyoob al-Ansâri. Abu Ayyoob used to set aside som
