Under this verse, Imam Baydhawi writes that the day of judgement is there so that those who have been oppressed/harmed in any way in this world and couldn't get justice, can finally get justice in the hereafter. This must be so comforting to those silenced.

I was explaining this to my young daughter, and she asked: is that anyone who has been wronged will be called in front of Allah, both the oppressor and the oppressed? I replied yes. She then went on to ask me, even if that's me and you? And I was shocked as I had never thought of it like that ...

How many times have I wrongly shouted at her or hurt her feelings? How many times has she called for me and I was too distracted with work or on my phone? How many things should I have taught her about Allah that I haven't? This terrifies me, that I could be categorised as the oppressor on that day.

When we think of oppressors we think of the pharoes of today, not realising that often we oppress those closest to us by not recognising and fulfilling their rights, and being careless in our attitude and behaviour.

I pray that the ones we have wronged forgive us, and may Allah protect us from ever being oppressors to others and to our selves. Ameen

Ameen. Alhamdulillah - this is such an incredibly heartwarming reflection. Fear Allah (SWT) in every action.
