Jareer b. Abdullah narrates that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah at the start of the day when there came to him some people who were barefoot, naked, and wearing striped woolen clothes or cloaks, with swords hanging from their necks. Most of them were from Mudhar - rather, all of them were from Mudhar. The face of the Messenger of Allah (saws) changed when he saw they were impoverished. So he entered [his house], and then came out. He ordered Bilal, who then made the call [to prayer] and the call of the establishment [of the prayer]. He prayed, then he addressed [us] and said: O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul… Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer. [4:1] Along with the Ayah in [Surah] al-Hashr: O you who have believed, fear Allah . And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. [59:18] People gave charity from their dinars, their dirhams, their garments, their sacks of wheat, and their sacks of dates - until he said: 'Even with a piece of a date.' A man from the Ansâr came with a bundle that he could barely carry - rather he could not carry it. The people then continued to follow until I saw two heaps of food, and clothing, and I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah gleaming as if it were made of gold. Then the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: 'Whoever establishes a good practice in Islam has its reward and the reward of whoever performs it after him, without their rewards decreasing at all. Whoever establishes a bad practice in Islam has the burden of it upon him, as well as the burden of whoever performs it after him, without their burdens decreasing at all.' [Authentic: Narrated by Muslim (1017)]
