Today marks the beginning of a new Hijri year, a time of reflection and renewal. Although the Prophet (PBUH) did not emigrate from Mecca to Madina in Muharram, the memory of this month lies in its Arabic name, Hijri, derived from the word 'Hijrah,' meaning migration. It symbolizes the profound journey of the Prophet (PBUH) and imparts invaluable lessons for us to learn. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said: 'The Struggle in the way of Allah (Jihad) is not complete without migration. Migration and jihad are not complete without faith. Those who seek Allah's mercy are those who fulfill these three. As the Quran states, 'Those who believe, and those who migrate and struggle in the way of Allah, they can hope for Allah's mercy. And Allah is All- Forgiving, Most Merciful.' Just as faith is obligatory for everyone, so is migration to God through Monotheism, sincerity, repentance, and trust. Migration to the Prophet is also obligatory through following him, obeying his commands, believing his words, and prioritizing his teachings: 'Whoever migrates to God and His Messenger, his migration is to God and His Messenger' (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).' O Allah, grant us a migration to You and Your Prophet that earns Your pleasure, mercy, and forgiveness.
