‘Âishah, the wife of the Prophet (saws), narrates: When the believing women migrated to the Messenger of Allah (saws), they would tested according to Allah’s statement: O Prophet! When the believing women come to you, pledging to you that they will neither associate anything with Allah ˹in worship˺, nor steal, nor fornicate… [60:12] (‘Âishah continues): Whoever among the believing women agreed to that had passed the test. When they would agree to that by speech, the Messenger of Allah (saws) would say to them: 'Go on, for I accept your pledge.' No, by Allah! The hand of the Messenger of Allah (saws) never once touched a woman; he only accepted their pledge through speech. (‘Âishah continues): By Allah, the Messenger of Allah (saws) never took an oath from a woman besides by that which Allah, the Exalted, commanded him. The palm of the Messenger of Allah (saws) never touched the palm of a woman. He would say to them when he accepted it: 'Go on, for I accept your pledge,' through speech. [Agreed upon: Narrated by al-Bukhari (4891) in a shorter wording, and Muslim (1866) in this wording]
