Umm ‘Atiyyah narrates: When we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (saws), he recited to us [the verse]: … pledging to you that they will not associate anything with Allah …. [60:12] He [also] prohibited us from wailing [over the deceased], so a woman held back her hand and said: 'So-and-so wailed over someone in my family, and I want to return the favor to her.' He did not say anything to her, so she left and returned, and then he took the pledge from her. No woman fulfilled [the pledge] except for Umm Sulaym, Um al-‘Alâ’, and the daughter of Abu Sabrah, the wife of Mu‘âdh (or: the daughter of Abu Sabrah, and the wife of Mu‘âdh.' [Agreed upon: Narrated by al-Bukhari (7215) in this wording, and Muslim (936)]
