"Shepherds vs Musa (a.s.)"

Why did Allah not choose someone from that crowd and instead choose Musa (a.s.)? If we reflect on that specific scene, a beautiful answer unfolds.

One amazing quality of Musa (a.s.) was that he was a very keen observer. People often say, “Don’t look around, and if it’s the opposite gender, run as far as possible.” But we don’t see that mentality here. Instead, Musa (a.s.) noticed them, observed their situation, and then approached them. The real difference between ordinary people and those who are chosen by Allah is that the chosen ones do not remain confined to their own needs. The shepherds were busy with their own work, but Musa (a.s.) looked beyond himself. He cared for those who had a genuine reason. We see that he first inquired and then offered help. The people of that village may have known about the situation too, yet no one bothered to help. From this, we learn another deep lesson: never compromise on your haya, no matter what the circumstances are. Allah Pak always makes a way out of difficulty, just as He sent Musa (a.s.) at the right time.

"How does the paradigm of Allah’s help work?"

If we focus from the very beginning, we see that Musa (a.s.) had a helping mentality. That is why, despite having killed a man, help still arrived for him in the form of another man who warned him that people were plotting to kill him without any trial. Similarly, in this situation, even though Musa (a.s.) himself was in need, he still fulfilled the needs of those girls, and then a way was opened for him. Many times, we become so absorbed in our own problems that when a needy person comes to us, we immediately start listing our own difficulties and refuse to help, without even thinking whether we actually can or not. Perhaps helping them could open a door for us too.

"Approaching someone"

Another beautiful quality of Musa (a.s.) was that he approached people who were in need instead of waiting for them to come and ask. This is a quality that I feel many of us lack, including myself. I don’t know why, but even when I want to help, sometimes I feel too shy to ask something as simple as, “Would you like to eat this?”
