It's not easy trying to do good things, trying to be a good muslim. The effort it takes? To wake up early in the winters and perform wudu in the cold? The mental struggle of battling forgetfulness and distraction during prayer? And trying so hard to make more time for the Quran?
It's a battle. And some days I win, some days I lose. We try again. We stay hopeful. We try to keep giving effort.
But that effort comes and goes, it rises and falls sometimes. The will to keep at it when it feels so hard to hold on, it can be such a fragile thing. Distractions are everywhere, whispers from shaytan sometimes sneak in... What's my defence?
Surat Ar Rahman.
When I listen to it, it heals something inside of me. And especially this ayah.
'Is the reward for goodness anything but goodness?'
My ears prick up at once and I'm filled with the will to do good things, excellent and amazing things. And I begin to wonder — if I could do one good thing today, what would the reward of that look like?
If I just remember Allah ﷻ, according to Ahadeeth, Allah ﷻ remembers me. If I speak of Him, He speaks of me. Then what, imagine, would be the reward of my next good deed?

SubhanAllah, such a beautiful reminder! Sometimes, you do good for someone and don’t receive any goodness in return instead, you get hurt by the very same people. As human beings, it’s natural to have some expectations from those you’ve helped not for a reward, but at least to not be hurt by them. However, we often forget that the true reward comes from Allah, not His creation. Never stop doing good, even if you get nothing in return, because Allah never forgets, not for even a single moment. Every act of goodness, even as small as a particle, will be rewarded by Him. And truly, Allah’s reward is the best. SubhanAllah.
