The Quran is filled with beautiful Duaas, but one of my personal favorites is the duaa of Asiya (ra). Allah (swt) refers to Asiya (ra) as the 'wife of Firoun' in the Quran instead of referring to her by her name. He (swt) highlights the man she was married to, Firoun. Firoun was one of the worst tyrants in history. But despite being his spouse, she didn't let this stop her from turning to Allah. Her faith was only increased as her oppression was increased. Despite her family, despite her spouse, she remained faithful to Allah. In the previous ayah, Allah (swt) talks about the wives of Nuh and Lut. These women despite being married to Prophets, still managed to disbelieve. Allah (swt) is showing us that Imaan is an individual's struggle and no matter what your ties are or who your family is, they won’t be able to save you on the Day of Judgment. The duaa that Asiya (ra) was so beautiful that Allah mentions it in the Quran and her duaa was رَبِّ ٱبْنِ لِى عِندَكَ بَيْتًا فِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ 'My lord built for me, with you a palace in Jannah.' Before Asiya (ra) asked for a home in paradise she said عِندَكَ, 'with you.' She wanted the company of Allah. She didn’t ask for a better husband, she didn't ask for a divorce, she asked for Allah. Replace the company of Firoun with the company of You (swt). Notice how she asked for a House in Jannah. Asiya (ra) was a queen, she could have had all palaces in this world. But, she didn’t want that palace. She said 'Oh Allah, I want a house near you in Jannah.' Your company, a palace in your Jannah is far greater than anything I have. And to touch on Asiya's status as a queen. To remain convicted and faithful to Allah whilst having everything and more is harder than remaining faithful whilst not having much. Because you know hardship that comes after great ease, is a harder hardship. This is why her duaa is mentioned, because she had it all. But despite her status in this world, she wanted a status with her Rab. That mattered more to her. When you put your trust in Allah, you put your heart at ease. Asiya (ra) said this duaa as she was being tortured by Firoun. Her moment of calling out to Allah wasn't in an easy time. But she had full conviction that Allah has something better in place for her. She didn’t ask for the bare minimum. She didn’t only ask for a house, she asked for a house near Him (swt) in Jannah. To ask Allah just to grant you Paradise, ask for more, beg for more. In that moment, Allah (swt) opened up the skies and she was able to see her house in Jannah. May Allah (swt) grant us all a house near Him in Paradise.
