The word azm (firm resolve) in the Qur’an appears in describing the Prophets Adam, Nuh, Musa, Esa and Ibrahim AS, all of who had higher levels of determination and willpower. By their standards of determination and high resolve, we are also commanded to follow in their footsteps. So what can we learn from their lives that can inspire us to have firm resolve? Let us take just the one example of Nuh AS (1) He lived for 950 years calling people to Allah. He employed every possible tactic in his dawah efforts despite the backlash, and did not give up until Allah alerted him to the fact that his people would not believe. If one avenue was shut down, he found other means to convey Allah’s message. If they refused to listen to him in public, he would visit them personally, and so forth. (2) His own people rejected him and threatened to kill him (3) He was ridiculed and taunted by his own people, often calling him mad (4) His own wife disbelieved in Allah and the message, despite knowing his honesty and integrity. (5) His own son disregarded his teachings and abandoned his company, only to remain behind and ascend to the mountaintop to avoid Allah’s punishment (6) He accepted Allah’s decree and did not complain or question Allah, after Allah declared that his son was not from his family. (7) He built an ark in the middle of a desert, under Allah’s guidance, plank by plank and nail by nail until Allah’s command arrived, despite the public mocking him (8) He demonstrated an entire life of sacrifice and servitude, dedicating his life and mission to Allah (9) Despite all of these challenges, losses and trials, he remained grateful and was described in this way by Allah SWT Himself SubhanAllah. How my heart yearns to meet him and hug him, and tell him how grateful our ummah is to have him as an example of true willpower, servitude and patience. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Nuh AS and all the Prophets. What are your reflections on this theme? I would love to read your reflections. Jazakallah for this amazing insight, Subhanallah, it just gets me thinking, Ya Wahab, You are indeed the bestower who granted Nuh A.S the firmness and determination, yet praised him for what you gave him Ya Wahab, grant us the firmness and determination to pull through, build habits, and stay firm, because truly not one of us possesses unless Allah has granted them.
