There are moments in life when we're touched by worry and sadness, as thoughts like 'If only...' begin to reverberate within us. We find ourselves replaying situations, with 'What if...?' and 'It could have...' ricocheting through our minds, wishing, hoping, and yearning for a different outcome, especially when reality unfolds differently than we had imagined.

Yet in those moments, we must remind ourselves: no matter how earnestly we hoped, how fervently we prayed, or how hard we tried, if it did not come to pass, it was never meant to. Be it a fleeting moment or a life-altering event, it transpired exactly as Allah willed.

It is maktub. It is written. It is qadr.

The path we tread has already been laid out with love and wisdom, far beyond our understanding, for Allah is the best of planners. Every turn, every delay, every unanswered prayer is part of His perfect design.

As Allah reminds us: وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ ۖ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تُحِبُّوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُوَ شَرٌّۭ لَّكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you, and you like something which is bad for you. Allah knows, while you know not. (2:216)

So trust the journey. Trust the One who authored your story. What is meant for you will never elude you, and what slips away was never meant to be yours.

The Prophet ﷺ said: 'What has reached you was never meant to miss you, and what has missed you was never meant to reach you.' (Musnad Ahmad)
