God’s Mercy Encompasses all Things [Reflections from Juz' 9] This verse leads me to believe that God’s mercy doesn’t just embrace all of His creations - humans, animals, oceans, mountains, planets, galaxies and more. It also encompasses all of the human’s inner nature in all of its complexity - His mercy encompasses all of your emotions and experiences. It encompasses your fears, your anxieties, your sadness, your uncertainty, your pain, your disappointments, your challenges, your weakness, and your falls. And it also encompasses your wins, your joys, your relief, your strength, your contentment, your hopes, and your dreams. So take them all to Him and let him hold you and carry you with His mercy through the fall and through the rise. It all began with mercy when He begins every single chapter in the Quran with the exception of one with In the Name of God, The Most Merciful, The Most Compassionate and when He describes himself first and foremost as The Most Merciful, Most Compassionate in Surat Al-Fatiha which we receive in every single prayer multiple times a day. It all keeps going with His mercy when He repeatedly tells us about His mercy throughout the Quran over hundreds of times. Surat Maryam, for example, is a chapter filled with mention of Allah's mercy throughout all the difficult experiences of Prophets including Prophet Zakariya, Maryam, Ibrahim, Mosus, and Jesus, peace be upon them all. And it all ends with His mercy as He tells us 'On that Day no soul will be wronged in the least, nor will you be rewarded except for what you used to do' (Surat Yasin, 54). May we be recipients of God’s mercy and compassion in all we do and may be of those who spread mercy and compassion wherever we go. Ameen.
