In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

Surah Yusuf is a story that has been revealed to our Prophet peace be upon him and given to us as a full story. We follow his relationship with his father and his narration of his dream, the plotting of his brothers, the abandonment in the dark depths of a well, being sold as slave, to harassment and false accusations from his master’s wife, being in prison, to becoming the King’s advisor. Then lastly forgiving his brothers and being reunited with his parents.

Surah Yusuf teaches us so many lessons within all these stages of his life and various tests. At the heart of all the testing lies the relationship between his brothe

Assamualaykum I am the eldest among four siblings — three brothers and one sister — and Alhamdulillah, I have learned to pray salah on my own, reflecting on every ayah as a reminder and a warning. My challenge is with my younger brother, who is 17, as I struggle to encourage him to pray, even just on Fridays or at Fajr, while I am 21 and trying to guide him with patience. We grew up in a loud family without proper discipline, where beating was the only way to enforce obedience, but I have sworn that this cycle ends with me. I worry deeply because death can come at any moment, and I want to protect myself and my family from neglecting salah. This responsibility weighs on me, but I know guida

I can relate to your post so much. I learnt to pray by going onto the internet and noting down the salah. My siblings kept that book and it helped them too. I would simply keep praying and make your character gentle and kind this will have an impact upon your siblings. Encourage them to start small. May Allah bless you and guide your family Ameen.

I'm just catching up with this week's

, and Shaykh Saeed reminded us of the hadith that this Surah gave the Prophet SAWS more white hairs than any other surah!

These two ayah, to me, are a reminder that biological

is not the same as family in the deen. That has been my personal experience as well especially since I am a revert.

I can only imagine how the Prophet SAWS must have taken this message, especially if Abu Talib, who never took his shahada, was still alive. This is a

surah, and I do have to wonder if it was revealed before the death of his beloved uncle. And even for those members of his family who had taken the shahada, there has never been any gua

Only those who lived through traumatic marriages or the agony of loosing a child, truly understand not just how agonizingly painful this period is, but how disgrounding it is too. For many, it is a time where we will desperately plea for Allah's help, but at the same time emotionally and physically we can become so drained that we can loose our true spiritual connection with Allah.

I have read this du'a for a joyous household many times but this morning it struck me: Why does Allah direct us to ask for spouses and children who will give us joy before He mentions make us leaders of those who have piety? You would think the latter is more important, right?

Maybe it is because most of us hum

‎وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍۢ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا وَيَعْلَمُ And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allāh is its provision… (11:6)

Rizq - a universal worry! Often times we make dua for barakah in our lives or to increase our rizq. However, we don’t truly internalise the fact that rizq isn’t always monetary. It encapsulates emotional provision too.

Rizq isn’t always palpable, it isn’t always in the form we expect it to be. Your dua for rizq can be answered in the form of a soft heart, a content soul, mental clarity, emotional intelligence, a positive attitude, ability to join circles of knowledge, righteous company, having the dua of your parents, the laught

Under this verse, Imam Baydhawi writes that the day of judgement is there so that those who have been oppressed/harmed in any way in this world and couldn't get justice, can finally get justice in the hereafter. This must be so comforting to those silenced.

I was explaining this to my young daughter, and she asked: is that anyone who has been wronged will be called in front of Allah, both the oppressor and the oppressed? I replied yes. She then went on to ask me, even if that's me and you? And I was shocked as I had never thought of it like that ...

How many times have I wrongly shouted at her or hurt her feelings? How many times has she called for me and I was too distracted with work

Ameen. Alhamdulillah - this is such an incredibly heartwarming reflection. Fear Allah (SWT) in every action. 'But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allah - then indeed, Allah loves those who fear Him.' [3:76]

This ayah drives the point home that absolutely nothing will save us except for our sincere attempt for righteousness and Allah's mercy. A righteous person may plea for our sake and we still cannot count on that being our salvation. This person's father - Nuh (as) - was a prophet, among the most righteous of all that has ever been created, and he pleaded with Allah and his son's behalf. It wasn't enough to save this person. How can we delude ourselves for even a second into thinking that we are going to be okay if we aren’t at least trying to be righteous and to be covered under the mercy of Allah?

Indeed, this is a grim reminder that righteousness and being a believer is above all else even kinship and blood-relation, which is itself reverred in the Quran.

Abu Hurayrah narrates: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (saws) and asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, who among the people is most deserving of my excellent treatment?' He replied: 'Your mother.' He asked: 'Then who?' He replied: 'Then your mother.' He asked: 'Then who?' He replied: 'Then your mother.' He asked: 'Then who?' He said: 'Then your father.'
