"And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is taqwa." (2:197)

Insha'Allah, in a week from now, I'll be going for Umrah with my parents and with my grandmother as well. Alhamdulillah. It's also the country of my birth, and I haven't been there since I moved to the United States when I was eight, so that's another thing to be excited about.

As we have been packing our things and mentally preparing for the journey, I am frequently remembering the verse where Allah says that, indeed, out of all provisions, taqwa is "the best provision." Upon just reflecting on this a little bit, it makes a lot of sense why the mention of taqwa over here is so critical.

For example, when someone goes

"Purify your garments" (Quran 74:4)

In an age where looking good and fashionable is no longer merely a personal choice but almost a social requirement, where viral clips challenge people to identify what they are wearing, their brands and their prices, we are often drawn to obsess over appearances. Yet this verse redirects our attention from the exterior to the interior, from what is worn on the body to what is carried in the heart.

It is within this context that Allah commands the Prophet (peace be upon him): “And purify your garments.” (Quran 74:4)

Scholars have held different views regarding the meaning of this verse. Some of these interpretations can be briefly summarised as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful, I have read ayah 26 from Suratul Ar’af many times without reading it within the Surah: 'O children of Adam!
