Hajj ends. The pilgrim returns home. The crowds disappear. The talbiyah fades. What remains? Salah. It is no coincidence that the final call in Surat Al-Hajj, before the scene of Hajj comes to a close, is a call to Salah. And it is no coincidence that Salah was also among the final words of the Prophet ﷺ before he left this world. Allah closes the scene of Hajj, one of the greatest journeys a believer can make, with a call to Salah. As if to say: the journey does not end when you return home. It continues five times a day, on your prayer mat, until you reach Jannah. And it is no coincidence that Salah begins with الله أكبر (Allahu Akbar), the same words that fill the valleys of Makkah and echo from the hearts of the pilgrims. A reminder of who we are, why we are here, and to Whom our final return will be. Surat Al-Hajj reminds us that Salah is not merely an obligation. It is a covenant. It is a sign of faith and steadfastness. It is the beginning of all goodness and the end of reliance on anything other than Allah. Life will flood us with noise, distractions, worries, and demands. It always does. But Salah is the anchor. It is the place where we return to Allah again and again. It is the place where weary hearts find rest, distracted minds find clarity, and struggling souls find strength. May Allah make Salah the comfort of our eyes, the light of our hearts, and the key to our success in this life and the next. Ameen.
