As we welcome a new Hijri year, my thoughts turn to the first Muhajir in the path of Allah: Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him. When he left his homeland, his people, and everything familiar for the sake of Allah, he uttered a statement that still inspires hearts today whenever we read the Ayah: إِنِّي مُهَاجِرٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ "Indeed, I am emigrating to my Lord. Indeed, He is the Almighty, the Most Wise." (29:26) What beautiful words. إني مهاجر إلى ربي I am going to my Lord. Leaving behind what displeases Him and moving toward what pleases Him. إنه هو العزيز He is the Almighty. Nothing is beyond His power. Whatever we leave for His sake, He is fully able to replace it with something better. الحكيم He is the Most Wise. His plan is better than our plan. His wisdom is greater than our understanding. What He chooses for us is better than what we choose for ourselves. Every believer has a Hijrah to make. A Hijrah from sins to obedience. A Hijrah from heedlessness to remembrance. A Hijrah from distractions to the Qur’an. A Hijrah from weak Salah to a heart that stands humbly before Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said: "You will never leave something for the sake of Allah except that Allah will replace it with something better." And among the greatest replacements is not wealth, status, or possessions, but what Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, described in his book Al-Fawaid as: “closeness to Allah, love for Him, tranquility of the heart, strength, joy, and contentment with one's Lord”. As we begin this new year, let us renew our Hijrah to Allah. And let us remember the beautiful words of the Prophet ﷺ: "The Muhajir is the one who abandons what Allah has forbidden." O Allah, make us among the true Muhajireen; those who leave behind everything that distances them from You and move toward everything that brings them closer to You. O Allah, replace our sins with repentance, our distractions with remembrance, our weakness with strength, our worries with peace, and our distance from You with nearness to You. O Allah, make this Hijri year a year of guidance, sincerity, steadfastness, and acceptance. Ameen.
